Man, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about who’s the real GOAT of football. It’s a debate that never seems to end, right? So, I decided to dig into it myself and see what all the fuss is about.

First off, I started looking at the big names everyone talks about. You got your Pele, who FIFA themselves called “the greatest”. Then there’s Lionel Messi, who just seems to break records left and right. I mean, the guy’s won the Ballon d’Or so many times, it’s insane. Plus, he finally got that World Cup win in 2022, which a lot of people say sealed the deal for him.
So, I went through a bunch of articles and stats. Messi’s got the most Ballon d’Or awards, and he’s the top scorer for Barcelona and La Liga. It’s nuts! And let’s not forget, he just won the World Cup, which is like the ultimate achievement in football. Some folks are even saying he’s gonna win the 2023 Ballon d’Or, which would just be another feather in his cap.
I also checked out what fans are saying, you know, whether they’re rooting for Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Liverpool, or whoever. The consensus seems to be leaning towards Messi, especially after that World Cup victory.
My Deep Dive into Stats
- Started compiling all the awards and records for each player.
- Compared their goal-scoring stats, assists, and overall performance in big matches.
- Watched some old footage of Pele and a ton of Messi’s highlights to see them in action.
After all this digging, it’s hard to argue against Messi. He’s just been so consistent, so incredibly skilled, and he’s achieved pretty much everything you can in football. Winning that World Cup was the cherry on top. It really made it tough to see anyone else as the GOAT.
So, yeah, that’s where I’m at. Messi seems to be the GOAT, at least in my book. It’s been a fun little project, diving into all this football history and stats. What do you guys think? Am I missing something, or is Messi really the greatest to ever play the game?
