That darn thing, where did it go? I swear, I just had it. Looks behind couches and curtains, that’s what I gotta do. Gotta find it, you know? It’s important. Maybe it’s my glasses? Or my keys? Could be anything, really. My memory ain’t what it used to be.

First, I’ll check the living room. That’s where I spend most of my time, sittin’ and watchin’ my shows. Gotta look on the tables, those darn end tables. Always somethin’ fallin’ down there. And the couch! Lord knows what’s hiding in those cushions. Could be money, could be candy wrappers, who knows!

  • Check under the couch cushions.
  • Look on top of the tables.
  • Check behind the curtains, maybe it fell.

Alright, living room is clean. Nothing there. Next up, the kitchen. I was just in there, makin’ a sandwich. Maybe I left it on the counter? Or maybe it fell in the sink? Oh, that would be a mess. Gotta check the drawers too, those things are always jam-packed. Maybe it got pushed inside one of them.

Nope, not in the kitchen either. Where else, where else… The hallway! I went out to get the mail earlier. Maybe it fell out of my pocket when I was reachin’ for the mailbox. Gotta look all along the floor there. It’s a narrow space, easy to miss things. Check entryway, yeah, maybe it’s on the table there, maybe it’s under the table.

  • Check the hallway floor.
  • Look near the mailbox.
  • Make sure nothings on or around the entryway table.

Still nothin’. Goodness gracious, where could it be? My bedroom! I was in there this mornin’, makin’ the bed. Maybe it’s on the nightstand. Or maybe it fell under the bed. I sure hope not, I hate bendin’ down that low. My back ain’t what it used to be either.

Looks behind couches and curtains, and under the bed too. Gotta check every nook and cranny. If I don’t find it in the bedroom, I don’t know what I’ll do. It’s gotta be somewhere! I haven’t left the house all day, so it has to be here somewhere, right? I have to find it, or else, or else, I dont know, I dont know. I have to find it.

  • Check the nightstand.
  • Look under the bed.
  • Check the closet, just in case.

Okay, I looked everywhere in the bedroom. Nothin’. This is gettin’ ridiculous. I need to think. Where was I today? What was I doin’? I need to walk back through my day. First, I was here, then I was there. It can be so hard to remember, but I have to retrace my steps. Maybe call places I was at today. I was in the kitchen, then the hallway, then the bedroom. That’s it. Just those three rooms. So it has to be in one of those rooms!

I’m gonna do a thorough search. One room at a time. Start with the living room again. This time, I’m gonna move everything. Take everything off the tables, check every item one by one. Take all the cushions off the couch, look in every fold. Move the couch out from the wall, check behind it. Looks behind couches and curtains. Empty all those baskets, move all the stacks of paper. Gotta be thorough, gotta be careful. It has to be in this room.

  • Empty all baskets.
  • Look through all stacks of paper.
  • Check infrequently used backpacks or purses.

Nothin’. Still nothin’. This is so frustratin’! On to the kitchen. Same thing. Empty all the drawers, check every shelf. Look in the fridge, even though that’s silly. Look in the pantry. Look in the oven, even though I haven’t used it today. Just gotta check everywhere. Where can it be? I looked all over the place, why can I not find it?

And finally, the bedroom again. Move the nightstand, look behind it. Take all the clothes out of the closet, check every pocket. Move the bed, look under it again. I hate lookin’ under the bed. Empty all the drawers, check every item. It’s gotta be here somewhere! I just know it!

Develop routines, they say. Always put things in the same spot. That’s what I need to do. Have a place for my keys, a place for my glasses, a place for everything. So I don’t have to go through this again. It’s so tirin’, looks behind couches and curtains, searchin’ for somethin’ you can’t find.

Maybe decorating behind the couch will help, put a shelf there or somethin’, to hold stuff. Or a table in the hallway. Just gotta find a better way to organize things. So next time, I won’t lose anythin’. But for now, I still gotta find that darn thing. Maybe I should make some tea, and sit down, and then try to think again. Sometimes, it just comes to me, when I least expect it. Hope it comes to me soon. I need to find it. I have to find it. I just have to.
