Sausage Curb Basics: Easy Ways to Make Your BBQ Better!

Okay, so I saw this “sausage curb” thing trending, and I was like, “What the heck is that?” I had to try it. I’m not gonna lie, I thought it was gonna be some weird food hack, but it’s way cooler.

First, I googled it, obviously. Turns out, it’s a skateboarding trick. Basically, you take a regular curb, paint it red like a giant sausage, and then wax the heck out of it so you can grind and slide on it. Sounded simple enough, right? Wrong.

Finding the Right Curb

This was the first hurdle. Not every curb is created equal. I drove around my neighborhood for like an hour, looking for the perfect one. It had to be:

  • Long enough to actually do tricks on.
  • Not too beat up, you know, no giant cracks or chunks missing.
  • In a spot where I wouldn’t get yelled at by angry neighbors or run over by a car.

Finally, I found one! It was in front of this abandoned building, kinda hidden away. Perfect!

Painting the Beast

Next, I went to the hardware store and grabbed a can of bright red spray paint. I felt kinda silly buying it, like I was about to vandalize something. I chose a vibrant, glossy red because, well, sausages, right?

Back at the curb, I put on some old gloves and started spraying. It took a couple of coats to get it really covered, and the fumes were kinda strong. I definitely recommend doing this in a well-ventilated area, which, thankfully, outside is.

The Waxing Ritual

Once the paint was dry (I waited a few hours, just to be sure), it was time for the wax. I used regular skateboard wax, the kind you can get at any skate shop. I rubbed that stuff all over the curb, really working it in. It’s gotta be slick, like super slick.

The Moment of Truth (and Many Fails)

Okay, time to actually skate it. I’m not a pro skater, by any means. I can ollie, I can do a few basic grinds, but that’s about it. My first few attempts were… not pretty. Lots of falling. Lots of scraping. My shins took a beating.

But, I kept at it. I tried different approaches, adjusted my speed, and focused on my balance. Finally, after like, a million tries, I landed a 50-50 grind! It wasn’t perfect, but it was something! I even managed to get a little slide going. It felt awesome!

The Aftermath

My “sausage curb” is still there, a bright red beacon of my (slightly clumsy) skateboarding accomplishment. It’s not perfect, the paint is already chipping in places, but it’s mine. And it’s fun. I go back there sometimes, just to mess around and try to improve. Maybe one day I’ll actually be good at it. For now, I’m just happy I didn’t break any bones.
