Okay, so I finally got my hands on a BMW R80G/S. I’ve been dreaming about this bike for, like, forever. It’s that classic adventure bike, you know? The one that makes you want to just pack a bag and disappear into the mountains.

First thing I did? I just stared at it. Seriously. I walked around it, like, ten times. Took a million pictures. It wasn’t perfect, obviously. It’s an old bike, so it had some dings and scratches, and a bit of rust here and there. But to me, that just added to the charm. It’s got history, you know?
Then, I started checking the important stuff. Checked the oil – looked okay. Checked the tires – needed some air, but they were in decent shape. I made sure the lights and signals worked. Everything seemed pretty good, considering its age.
The real test, though, was firing it up. I turned the key, pulled the choke, and hit the starter. It coughed a couple of times, and I was holding my breath… then, vroom! It roared to life. That classic boxer engine sound – music to my ears!
Getting it Road-Ready
- First, I gave it a good wash. Got rid of all the dust and grime.
- Then, I changed the oil and filter. Just wanted to make sure everything was fresh.
- I lubed up the chain and all the cables. Made everything feel smoother.
- I adjusted the tire and check the air inside.
- I tightened a few loose bolts here and there. Nothing major, just little things.
Then came the test ride! I took it slow at first, just getting a feel for it. The suspension was a bit soft, but the engine felt strong. I rode it around my neighborhood, then took it out on some back roads. It was amazing! It just felt so… solid. Like it could handle anything.
I’ve still got a few things I want to do to it. Maybe upgrade the suspension, add some crash bars, and definitely get some new tires. But for now, I’m just enjoying the ride. This bike is everything I hoped it would be. It’s a keeper!
