Okay, so I’ve been messing around with baseball stats again, specifically looking at players who’ve done time with both the San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants. It’s a fun little rabbit hole to go down, especially when you start comparing performance and all that.

First, I started by just listing out the big names that came to mind, you know, the ones everyone talks about. Then I got a little more serious and dug into some databases to pull all the players who’ve played for both teams. I found some interesting names there.
Getting the Data Together
- Gathered a list of all players who played for both teams.
- Pulled their stats from each team.
- Started to look at their WAR – that’s Wins Above Replacement, for those not into baseball stats. It’s a good way to see a player’s overall value.
I focused on Gaylord Perry first, ’cause he’s a Hall of Famer and a legend. Turns out he played 2 seasons for the Padres but a whole 10 for the Giants. His WAR was way higher with the Giants, which makes sense given he spent way more time there.
Diving into Specific Games
Then I got sidetracked a bit, as I usually do. I started looking at upcoming games and who’s pitching. Like, I saw that Spencer Bivens was going to pitch for the Giants, and even though he’s got a decent record, I don’t know, something about it made me dig deeper into recent games.
I checked out how to watch these games too. Turns out, getting the right channel or stream can be a pain. You’ve got your local channels, like NBC Sports Bay Area for the Giants, and then there are services like *. And the game times! Don’t even get me started on time zones.
Other Players and Some History
While I was at it, I stumbled upon some stuff about Manny Machado. He’s kind of a big deal, but it feels like people forget about him sometimes. I checked out a game where he walked, and it got me thinking about how the little things in a game can add up. This is a famous player, and we need to know more about him.

And how could I not look into the Padres’ history? I learned they’ve been a Major League team since ’69, but the name “Padres” has been around in San Diego for way longer. And their Hall of Fame? They’ve got 19 members, with John Moores and Jake Peavy being the latest. They even have an exhibit at Petco Park, which I totally want to check out now.
I also found out about Tony Gwynn’s batting helmet from 1995. That guy was a legend, spent his whole career with the Padres. It’s just cool to see these little pieces of history.
So yeah, that’s basically what I’ve been up to. It’s not rocket science, just a guy messing around with baseball stats and getting lost in the stories. But hey, it’s fun, and that’s what matters, right?
