Nurburgring Track Guide: All Corner Names of the Nordschleife.

Okay, so I’ve been a huge racing game fan forever, and the Nurburgring Nordschleife is like the ultimate track, right? But I always got tripped up on the corner names. They’re all in German, and some of them sound really similar. So, I decided to finally get them straight in my head.

First, I grabbed a map of the track online. I mean, there are tons of them out there. Just searched for “Nurburgring Nordschleife track map” and boom – images galore.

Then I opened up a notepad document on my computer. Nothing fancy, just something to jot things down.

The Deep Dive

Next, I started going through the track, section by section. I used the map as a guide, and for each corner, I wrote down the name.

  • Flugplatz: Okay, this one means “airfield” or something, right? Makes sense, it’s a pretty fast section.
  • Schwedenkreuz: “Swedish Cross”…huh. Wonder what the story is behind that one.
  • Aremberg: This one seems name of place.
  • Fuchsröhre: I think it means “Foxhole”.
  • Adenauer Forst: Sound like name of forest near Adenauer.
  • Metzgesfeld: Don’t know.
  • Kallenhard:Still don’t know.
  • Wehrseifen: No idea for this one.
  • Breidscheid: It means name of bridge.
  • Ex-Mühle: Sounds like a mill?
  • Bergwerk: “Mountain work” or “Mine”? Probably referring to the track’s elevation changes.
  • Kesselchen: I think it means “little kettle.”
  • Klostertal:No idea again.
  • Karussell: The famous banked corner! Everyone knows this one.
  • Hohe Acht:Seems like highest point.
  • Wippermann:Sounds like a person’s name.
  • Brünnchen: Think it’s”Little Well”.
  • Pflanzgarten: It means “Plant garden”
  • Schwalbenschwanz: It means”Swallow Tail”.
  • Galgenkopf: It means”Gallows Head”.
  • Döttinger Höhe: It’s the name of a place.
  • Antoniusbuche: No idea.
  • Tiergarten: Sounds like “animal garden,” maybe a zoo was nearby?
  • Hohenrain: No Idea.

I kept going like this, corner after corner. Some of the names, I could kinda guess the meaning based on my (very) limited German. Others, I had absolutely no clue. I might need to do some more digging on those.

Making it Stick

It’s one thing to write them down, it’s another to actually remember them. So I started playing my racing games again, focusing on the Nordschleife. Every time I approached a corner, I tried to recall the name before I saw it on screen.

It’s still a work in progress, but I’m definitely getting better! It’s so much more satisfying to drive the track when you actually know the names of the corners. Feels like I’m understanding the track on a whole new level.
