Alright, so the other day I was browsing and I stumbled upon something about the Cape Verde national football team. I’d heard of them before, but I didn’t really know much about their history. So, I decided to dig a little deeper and see what I could find out. Turns out, they’re called the Blue Sharks, which I thought was pretty cool.

First thing I did was just look up their recent record. I went through their 2019/20 season, game by game. There was a graph showing how their form rating changed over time, and then a list of all their fixtures. They also had an address for their place, something like “Avenida Cidade de Lisboa” in Praia.

Then I wanted to know more about their achievements, you know, the big stuff. From what I gathered, they’ve never actually made it to the FIFA World Cup. Bummer, right? But they have played in the Africa Cup of Nations four times – in 2013, 2015, 2021, and 2023. The best they did was in 2023 when they got through the first knockout round. I guess that’s something to be proud of.
Remember the Past
- 2013 Africa Cup of Nations: I read somewhere that their 2013 appearance was like a fairytale.
- “Blue Sharks”: They mentioned the nickname again, and how they lived up to it in that tournament.
I watched some highlights from those games, and man, the atmosphere seemed electric. Their fans were really into it. It’s always cool to see a team that maybe isn’t the biggest name but still has a ton of heart and support. The Blue Sharks definitely seem like one of those teams.
So, that’s my little adventure into the world of Cape Verde football. It’s not every day you learn about a team nicknamed the Blue Sharks that’s had a bit of a fairytale run in a big tournament. Might have to keep an eye on them in the future, see how they do.
