Okay, so today I messed around with a fun little project: figuring out what happens when something “turns to lava above ground.” Sounds pretty epic, right? Here’s how it went down:

The Idea
First, I needed to get my head around what I even meant. We’re not talking actual geology here, obviously. I’m thinking more like, what if a regular object suddenly became super-heated, like molten rock? I decided to go with a simple scenario – a plain old rock.
The Setup
- I grabbed a rock from my backyard. Nothing fancy, just a regular, gray stone.
- I put on some safety glasses. Safety first, even if it’s just pretend!
- I got my imagination in gear, need to make sure I am ready.
The “Experiment” (aka, Imagining Really Hard)
So, here’s where the fun began. I held the rock in my hand and started thinking, “Okay, rock, you’re about to become LAVA.”
I started imagine it glowed orange. This thing would be HOT.
Next, I imagined the rock starting to soften. It wouldn’t just melt like ice, it would get all gooey and start to droop, I figured.

Then began to spread, I think it will not keep it shape.
The Aftermath (Still in My Head)
Once it was fully “lava,” I pictured it spreading out on the ground. It wouldn’t be a perfect circle, more like a blob, with maybe some parts cooling and hardening faster than others, creating a rough, uneven surface.
I realized pretty quickly that this whole “experiment” was really just a fun thought exercise. But it was cool to think about the process and visualize what something like that might look like, even if it was only in my imagination. Made for a pretty entertaining afternoon!
