OK, so, I’ve been trying to up my golf game lately, specifically working on getting more speed in my swing. It’s been a real journey, let me tell you. I started off by just trying to swing harder, thinking that was the key. Yeah, that didn’t really work out too well. My shots were all over the place, and I wasn’t really getting that extra distance I was after.

So, I began to watch a few videos online and did some reading. I learned it’s not just about swinging harder. It’s about how you use your body and get that energy to transfer efficiently to the clubhead. There is one guy in one video said I need to know my shot shape and visualize it. I am going to give it a try.
My Practice Routine
- Weight Transfer: I’ve been focusing on shifting my weight from my back foot to my front foot during the swing. It felt weird at first, like I was going to fall over, but I’m getting the hang of it. It actually does make a difference in how much power I can put behind the ball.
- Shoulder Rotation: This one was a game-changer. I realized I wasn’t really turning my shoulders enough. Now, I’m making a conscious effort to rotate them more, and it feels like I’m winding up a spring or something. When I release, it definitely adds some oomph to the swing.
Strength and Flexibility
I also learned that being stronger and more flexible can help with swing speed. Some guy in one video talked about muscular strength and force to the clubhead. He said he trains the four major movement patterns of the upper and lower body to build strength. That sounds cool. So, I started doing some basic strength training exercises, focusing on my core, legs, and arms. Nothing too crazy, just some push-ups, squats, and lifting some weights. And I’ve been stretching more too, especially my hips and shoulders. I think it’s helping me get a wider range of motion in my swing.
Proper Equipment
Someone told me I should think about my equipment. You know, clubs with lighter shafts, and checking the loft angles. I haven’t changed my clubs yet, but it’s something I’m considering. I learned that using proper equipment such as lightweight shafts and loft angles could maximize distance. I guess the right gear can make a difference.
Maintaining Form
One big thing I realized is that I needed to keep my form in check. It’s easy to get carried away and start swinging wildly, but that just messes everything up. I’m trying to start with a good setup and takeaway, and then make sure my body is rotating properly. It’s a lot to think about, but I feel like it’s starting to become more natural.
It’s still a work in progress, but I’m definitely seeing some improvement. My drives are going a bit further, and I feel more in control of my shots. It’s been a fun challenge, and I’m excited to see how much more I can improve. I just gotta keep practicing and maybe get some more tips from folks who know what they’re doing!
