Alright, buckle up, folks, because I’m about to spill the beans on my little NBA 2K Kyrie Irving cover project. It was a wild ride, let me tell you!

It all started with a random thought: “Wouldn’t it be cool to have a custom NBA 2K cover with Kyrie on it?” I’m a huge Kyrie fan, always have been, so the idea just kinda stuck in my head. I figured, why not give it a shot?
Phase 1: Gathering the Goods
- First things first, I needed a high-res image of Kyrie. Scouring the internet was my first move. Google Images became my best friend. I looked for dynamic action shots, something that screamed “Kyrie!” Found a few promising ones, saved them all.
- Next, I needed a clean NBA 2K cover template. Luckily, these are pretty easy to find online. I grabbed a template for the specific year I wanted the cover to represent – I was aiming for that sweet spot when his game was just unreal.
- Fonts! Gotta have the right fonts. NBA 2K has a distinct font style, so I did a little digging to figure out what they use. Found some similar options, downloaded those babies.
Phase 2: Photo Editing Shenanigans
This is where things got real. I’m no Photoshop wizard, but I know my way around the basics. I fired up Photoshop (yeah, I pay for it!), and started messing around:
- Opened the cover template.
- Imported my chosen Kyrie image. This was the trickiest part – getting him to fit the composition without looking awkward. I had to resize him, adjust his position, and even play around with the perspective a bit. It took a few tries, but eventually, I got him looking like he belonged there.
- Next up, the background. The original template had a generic background, so I swapped it out for something more visually appealing. I found a cool basketball court image, blurred it out a bit to keep the focus on Kyrie, and blended it into the cover.
- Text time! Added the “NBA 2K” logo, the game title, and all the other text elements you’d expect to see on a cover. I used those fonts I downloaded earlier, tweaked the colors to match the overall theme, and made sure everything was aligned properly.
Phase 3: The Devil’s in the Details

With the main elements in place, it was time to polish things up. This is where the subtle details can really make or break the final product:
- Color correction: I tweaked the colors of the Kyrie image and the background to make them look more vibrant and cohesive. A little bit of contrast and saturation can go a long way!
- Shadows and highlights: Added some subtle shadows and highlights to the Kyrie image to give him more depth and make him pop off the cover.
- Refinements: Spent a good hour just zooming in and scrutinizing every pixel, making sure everything looked sharp and clean. Little things like smoothing out rough edges and fixing minor imperfections.
Phase 4: The Grand Reveal (and Printing)
Finally, after hours of tweaking and perfecting, I was happy with the result. I saved the image as a high-resolution JPEG, ready for printing.
I went to a local print shop, showed them my file, and asked them to print it on high-quality glossy paper. They were pretty impressed with the design, which made me feel good. A few hours later, I picked up the print, and it looked amazing! The colors were vibrant, the details were sharp, and Kyrie looked like a freakin’ superstar on that cover.
I carefully cut out the print to the exact size of a standard NBA 2K game case insert. Slid it into the case, and BAM! Custom Kyrie Irving NBA 2K cover, baby!
Honestly, it was a fun little project. It took some time and effort, but it was totally worth it. Now I have a unique piece of gaming memorabilia that I can proudly display on my shelf. If you’re thinking about doing something similar, I say go for it! It’s a great way to express your fandom and get creative.
