Fighter Flashes Problem? Check Out These Simple Fixes Now!

Let me tell you about this thing I’ve been messing with, called “fighter flashes.” It all started when I was watching some Thai Boxing matches at The Salisbury Center. I was just a spectator, you know, enjoying the action, when it hit me – what if I could make a simple game out of this?

So, I started tinkering. The basic idea was to have a red block, representing the player, moving around on the screen. The challenge? Avoid getting hit by blue blocks or touching the black walls. Sounds simple, right? Well, the US Air Force supposedly uses tests like this to rate their fighter pilots, so I thought, why not give it a try? I named it “fighter flashes” inspired by those brave pilots.

I remembered reading somewhere about the F-35 Lightning II Joint Program Office. They manage these super advanced fighter jets, the F-35A and F-35B. It got me thinking about how complex those systems must be, and how my little game was just a tiny, tiny piece of that puzzle. But hey, everyone starts somewhere, right?

Then I started thinking about combos in fighting games, like canceling a normal move into a flash kick. I thought I might add that feature at some point. It was just an idea, not sure how i might do it, but it was nice to think about it.

On the technical side, I was playing around with an STM32F030C8T6 microcontroller. I was trying to figure out how to store some configuration data at the end of the flash memory. I even carved out 4K of the 64K flash for this, using the linker file. It was a bit of a headache, but I managed to get it working after some trial and error.

  • First, I had to make the red block move smoothly.
  • Second, I programmed the blue blocks to move randomly, making it a bit challenging.
  • Third, I set up the black walls as boundaries. You touch them, you lose.
  • Finally, I added a scoring system, just to make things a bit more interesting.

I even found this online forum where people were talking about spiritual attacks, and how to identify them using seven signs from a book. It was a bit out there, but it got me thinking about the “enemy” in my game – the blue blocks. I guess you could say I was trying to understand their “tactics,” even though they were just randomly generated.

I also learned about something called “binary format” and “CodePlex” from some online flashcards. I didn’t really use them in my project, but it was interesting to learn about new things along the way.

It’s not much, my “fighter flashes” game. But it was fun to make, and I learned a few things along the way. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll turn it into something bigger. For now, it’s just a little project I did for fun. That’s all about it, thanks for listening to my rambling!
