Hey everyone, so, I was all set to watch the Steelers game tonight, you know, snacks ready, jersey on, the whole nine yards. But then, I started to wonder if the game was even going to happen because it was raining cats and dogs outside. So, I grabbed my phone and started to do some digging.

First, I checked out the division standings to see if the Steelers even had a playoff spot. Turns out, they did! They’re sitting pretty at 10-6, so that was good news. But that didn’t tell me if the game was on or not.
Next, I stumbled upon some info about a game between the Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys that was supposed to be a Sunday Night Football thing in Week 5. Apparently, it didn’t get off to a great start, and there was some chatter about a weather delay around 9:20 p.m. Eastern time. I thought, “Okay, this is something.”
Then I found an article from some news outlet, I think it was the Associated Press, that said the Steelers-Cowboys game actually did start after a “lengthy weather delay”. It even mentioned that it was a physical game. This gave me a bit of hope, but it still wasn’t clear about tonight’s game.
I kept digging and found a post talking about how it’s December in Pennsylvania, so bad weather is kind of expected. It mentioned that officials had declared a weather delay for some game, but it didn’t say which one.
Then, I hit the jackpot! There was an announcement saying that the Steelers-Cowboys game was officially delayed due to weather, right before kickoff. It was originally supposed to start at 8:20 p.m. ET, but they pushed it back to around 9:45 p.m. ET. This was it! This was the kind of info I was looking for.

But I also came across something about another game, this time between the Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals were having a rough season, 2-10, and the Steelers were doing better at 7-4. Anyway, there was heavy rain during this game too, especially at the end of the second quarter. They even had a second delay in the afternoon because the rain was so bad it drenched the field.
Update
- The game between Steelers and Cardinals will restart at 4:30 p.m. ET after a 10 minutes warmup.
- Players are expected to return to the field at 9:25 p.m. ET.
So, after all this digging, I figured out that while rain can definitely delay a Steelers game, and it had impacted two specific games in my search, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s completely canceled. It seems like they try to play if they can, but they’ll postpone it for safety. I guess I’ll just have to keep an eye on the updates to see what happens with tonight’s game!
