Okay, so I wanted to get a good handle on the 2022 NASCAR standings. I’m a big fan, but sometimes it’s tough to keep track of everything throughout the season. So, I decided to make my own little tracker.

First, I started by just, like, watching the races. That’s the obvious part, right? But I needed something more concrete than just my memory.
Then I grabbed a notebook – yeah, a real paper one! – and started jotting down the top finishers after each race. Just the top 10, nothing too fancy. I figured that would give me a good sense of who was consistently doing well.
After a few weeks, the notebook was getting a little messy. So, I moved everything over to a spreadsheet on my computer. Much cleaner! I created columns for the driver’s name, the race, and their finishing position.
The spreadsheet was way better. I could easily sort by driver and see how many top 10s, top 5s, and wins they had. It was satisfying to see the data all organized.
I kept this up for the whole 2022 season. It sounds a little basic but it worked. I can pull my data up for you.

- Driver A. Finishes 1.1.2.5.6…
- Driver B. Finishes 3.1.1.8.2…
- Driver C. Finishes 7.4.3.1.2…
By the end of the year, I had this awesome, complete record of the standings, at least as far as my top-10 tracking went. I felt pretty good about it, and it definitely made me feel more connected to the season.
