Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this 2007 Honda 600RR for a while now, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I got this bike a bit beat up, you know, it had been dropped on its side. My first move was to check if there was a spark, there wasn’t any, and I figured the injectors weren’t doing their job either. But, I could hear the fuel pump doing its thing.

I’ve been riding for years, so I know my way around bikes, especially Hondas, and I know that they have a few usual problems. This one seemed different though. I started by pulling out all the spark plugs to see what was up, because if you have no spark you’re going to have some issues. I was reading up about all sorts of problems people have had with these CBR600RRs, like the cam chain tensioner wearing out too soon and causing the engine to misfire. My bike had over 20k miles on it, so anything was possible. It is a Honda though and they are usually pretty reliable. I read that they can go over 100k miles if they are well maintained.
I spent hours going through forums and discussions, just trying to get a hint of what could be wrong. Some folks were talking about a steering damper thingy, the HESD, that Honda put in these bikes. I didn’t think that would be the issue but I made a mental note of it just in case.
- First, the spark plugs: No spark. That’s a big red flag right there.
- Then, the injectors: I was pretty sure they weren’t firing. Fuel pump was buzzing, but that’s about it.
- Cam Chain Tensioner: I read somewhere online that these can wear out early. A loose cam chain can cause misfiring. It’s a long shot, but I’m keeping it in mind.
- Engine Case Color: I saw some forum posts talking about different engine case colors, but that didn’t seem relevant to my no-spark issue. Maybe it’s a hint for something else.
- HESD: This is the electronic steering damper. Apparently, this model has the new version. Again, not sure if it’s related, but I’m not ruling anything out.
I also came across some guys talking about doing wheelies in second gear and having problems, but that wasn’t really my main concern at the moment. I just wanted this thing to start!
It’s a bit of a puzzle, but I’m slowly piecing it together. I’m going to try replacing the cam chain tensioner, I think, just to rule that out. Hopefully, that fixes the misfiring, if that’s even what’s happening. I’m trying to keep the mood positive, even though this bike is testing my patience. I’ll keep digging and hopefully figure out what’s going on with this CBR600RR. It’s a solid bike, and even though it’s been through a lot, I’m determined to get it running right again.
Troubleshooting So Far
I’m thinking maybe the previous owner didn’t take the best care of it. Or maybe it’s just one of those things. Bikes can be unpredictable sometimes. Still, I’m not giving up. I’ll keep you all posted on what I find out. Who knows, maybe I’ll stumble upon the solution while I’m tinkering away in the garage. Wish me luck!
