Today, I messed around with something a bit different – tuning into Yuki Tsunoda’s radio during races. Honestly, I’ve been following this guy for a while, and his radio chatter is just pure gold. I’ve got the gears turning, and I want to share with you what I did today.
First thing’s first, I had to figure out where to even listen to this stuff. Turns out, there’s no regular radio station broadcasting F1 team radios. Bummer, right? But I wasn’t giving up that easily. I found out that you can listen to race coverage through the BBC Sounds app. I thought to give it a try since they cover every race weekend.
So, I downloaded the BBC Sounds app and waited for the next race weekend. While I was waiting, I did some digging on Tsunoda. The guy’s first language is Japanese, but apparently, he’s pretty good at English now. That’s a plus, because I wanted to understand what he was saying.
Race weekend finally rolled around, and I fired up the app. I managed to catch some of Tsunoda’s radio chatter during the Qatar Grand Prix. He ended up finishing 13th, which wasn’t great, but the radio stuff was interesting. There was a lot of back and forth with his engineer, talking about strategy and car performance, you know, the usual racing stuff. It was cool to hear the raw, unfiltered communication between a driver and his team. You don’t really get that from the regular TV broadcast.
But here’s the juicy part. I read somewhere that after a demo event where he drove some hybrid IndyCar, he actually asked to go out again in some souped-up Acura Integra road car. The guy’s a real car enthusiast, it seems. What a surprise!
My Findings
- No AM/FM Radio: You can’t just tune into a regular radio station to hear F1 team radios.
- BBC Sounds App: The BBC Sounds app seems to be a good option for listening to race coverage, including some team radio chatter.
- Yuki’s English: Tsunoda’s English is good enough to understand most of what he’s saying on the radio. I guess it is important to him to improve his English.
- Qatar GP: I caught some of his radio during the Qatar GP, where he finished 13th.
- Car Guy: Seems like Tsunoda is a genuine car enthusiast, not just an F1 driver.
It was a fun little experiment, and I’ll definitely be tuning in again in the future. Maybe I’ll even try to compile some of his best radio moments. Stay tuned!
