Getting into Deadpool Football
Alright, so I gotta share this thing we tried last season – deadpool football. Sounds kinda grim, right? Yeah, well, it sorta is, but it was an interesting ride. It all started pretty casually, just kicking back with a few buddies, talking about how regular fantasy football sometimes gets boring, always rooting for the same stars.
Someone, I forget who, threw out this idea: what if we picked players we thought would totally suck? Or, you know, get injured? Morbid, I know, but it got us talking. We figured, why not give it a shot? Just for laughs, something different.
Setting Up Our Little League
So, the first step was figuring out how the heck this would even work. We didn’t want anything complicated. Forget fancy apps or websites. We decided to keep it old school. Just a shared spreadsheet, basically. Simple.
We got about eight guys together. Then came the rules. This took some back and forth, mostly arguing over beers. We landed on a few key things:
- Each person picks a roster of players – maybe a QB, couple RBs, WRs, like that.
- Scoring was reversed. Bad plays got you points. Interceptions, fumbles, getting sacked – good for us!
- The big points, though? Getting injured. Out for the game? Points. Out for the season? Jackpot!
- We had a simple draft. No auction, just a snake draft like regular fantasy, but picking guys we thought were washed up, injury-prone, or just plain bad.
The draft night was weirdly hilarious. Instead of hyping up players, everyone was trash-talking them, explaining exactly why they thought this guy would break a leg or that guy would throw five picks a game. It felt wrong, but kinda funny too.
Running the Season
Watching the games became a whole different experience. You’re not cheering for touchdowns anymore. You’re wincing when a player makes a great catch. You’re kinda sorta hoping for that awkward tackle. It’s messed up! I found myself glued to the injury reports like never before.
We kept track manually on our spreadsheet. Every Monday, one poor soul had the job of updating the scores based on weekend disasters. It wasn’t glamorous. Lots of checking stats, confirming injuries. Sometimes we argued about what counted as a “bad play” if it wasn’t an official stat.
There were some funny moments. Like when the guy everyone thought was a guaranteed bust suddenly had a career game. Total disaster for the person who picked him in our league. Or when two players on opposing deadpool teams collided and both got hurt. Mixed feelings all around.
What I Reckon Now
Honestly? It was… an experience. Definitely different. Made us pay attention to different parts of the game. But it also felt kinda grubby sometimes, rooting for guys to fail or get hurt. Takes a certain kind of humor, I guess.
Keeping track manually was a bit of a pain too. If we ever did it again, maybe we’d find a simpler way, though I dunno what that would be without using some dedicated platform, which kinda defeats the simple vibe we had.
Was it fun? Yeah, in a weird, dark way. It was a good conversation starter, that’s for sure. Would I rush to do it again? Maybe not immediately. Regular fantasy feels a bit cleaner, you know? But hey, we did it. We tried the deadpool football thing, and it was memorable, I’ll give it that.
