Okay, so I wanted to put together a quick reference for the 2009 New York Mets roster. I figured it would be a fun little project, and honestly, sometimes I just forget who was on that team! It was a weird year, you know?

Getting Started
First, I needed to find a reliable source. I wanted something complete, with all the players, their positions, and maybe even some basic stats. So, I started by browsing a few different sports websites.
Compiling the Information
I decided to create a simple list. Just a basic rundown of the players, grouped by their positions. I went through and copied player name, position, and key stats, such as batting average or ERA.
The Final Roster (Sort Of)
Here’s what I put together from what I found, and remember. It is not perfet, and the stats can vary based on source, I know. But, overall, I think this list is mostly complete, at least for the most important part of the roster:
- Pitchers:
Johan Santana, Mike Pelfrey, Oliver Perez, John Maine, Livan Hernandez, and Francisco Rodriguez as the closer.
- Catchers:
Brian Schneider, and Omir Santos shared time behind the plate.

- Infielders:
We had David Wright at third, obviously. The middle infield had some combination of Luis Castillo, and Jose Reyes, when he was healthy. First base was… well, a bit of a revolving door, Daniel Murphy, and Fernando Tatis, who I think played a lot of positions that year.
- Outfielders:
I remember Carlos Beltran, of course. Then there was Ryan Church, and a young Fernando Martinez.
Wrap Up!
So, that’s my quick and dirty recap of figuring out the 2009 Mets roster. It is not perfect, I know, but it helped me remember that year. It was a messy season.
