Okay, so I recently got really into Manchester United, and I wanted to figure out their player positions. I mean, I’m watching the games, and I’m like, “Who’s that guy? Where’s he supposed to be on the field?” It’s all a bit confusing at first, you know?

So, I started digging around. First, I just wanted to get a list of the players, like a basic roster. I found some information that listed all the players with some personal details. You know, like their age and nationality. That was a good starting point. I wrote down all the players’ names, just to get familiar with them.
Then, I tried to find out what positions each player usually plays. This was a bit trickier. I found a few different sources. Some sources are talking about Man Utd’s fixture, lineup, tactics, and formations. That made it a little bit hard to know who plays where for sure.
After that, I went and found another source that talking about 2023/24 squad and injury. I figured that would be helpful, since a player’s position might change if someone else is injured. Makes sense, right?
I spent a good few hours on this, cross-referencing information and trying to get a clear picture. I started making a list, putting each player under their main position. I looked at a source that says “current squad according to main position and side positions”, and made some notes.
- Goalkeepers
- Defenders
- Midfielders
- Forwards
I also jotted down any info about injuries or players who might be playing in different positions. I found that one document talked about the transfer of a player named Martinez, that was interesting so I made a note of it just in case.

Finally, I felt like I had a pretty good handle on it. I even started watching some game highlights with my new knowledge, and it made so much more sense! I could actually follow what was going on and who was doing what.
It was a bit of a project, but I’m glad I did it. Now I feel like a real Man U fan, and I can actually enjoy the games even more. Plus, I learned a lot about football in general, so that’s a bonus!
