Okay, so today I messed around with something called the “Colin Prater Score.” Honestly, I didn’t even know what it was until this morning, but it sounded interesting, so I gave it a shot. Turns out, it’s a way to kind of “score” how good you are at identifying bird songs. Sounds kinda nerdy, I know, but stick with me.

Getting Started
First, I had to find some bird song recordings. I figure to do that for learn and train.
Then download some bird song, spend a long time to find those.
The Actual Testing
The testing process is pretty straightforward.
- Listen:It played a bird song recording.
- Guess:I had to guess what kind of bird it was. I wrote down my guess.
- Repeat:Do it many times,It’s hard to remember.
I listened to each recording, tried my best to identify the bird, and wrote down my answer. I did this for, like, I don’t know, maybe 20 or 30 different songs. Some were super easy, like the classic robin or blue jay. Others? No clue. I felt like I was just guessing randomly.
Calculating the Score
After I’d gone through all the recordings, it was time to see how I did.

Then I check answer, and caculate my score,i got a bad score.
My Results (and Thoughts)
So, how did I do? Not great, to be honest. I think I got maybe a 3 out of 10 .Which is not good,I need more *’s feel hard to remember.
It was definitely a humbling experience. I thought I knew a few bird songs, but this showed me I have a lot to learn. It also made me appreciate how complex and varied bird songs can be.
I’m not sure if I’ll become a bird song expert anytime soon, but it was a fun little experiment. Maybe I’ll try it again sometime and see if I can improve my score. If you’re looking for something different to try, give it a shot! Just don’t expect to be a pro right away.
