Well, let me tell you about this place, Turf Paradise. It’s a place where they got horses, you know, those big animals that run real fast. And they race ’em! I heard it’s in Phoenix, Arizona, somewhere in Deer Valley. Sounds fancy, don’t it?

They say it’s been around since, oh, 1956, that’s a long time! That’s like, before I was even, well, you know… Anyway, this Turf Paradise is supposed to be a big deal, a landmark, they call it. They got these horses, thoroughbreds and quarter horses. Big, strong horses with muscles in their legs. I wonder what the horse racing is like.
They race ’em on this track, this big ol’ circle of dirt. And folks come from all over to watch. Some fella said it used to be real nice, like a shiny penny. He called it a “gem in the desert.” But now, he says it’s all run down, like an old shoe. He said the parking lot is all bumpy. Ain’t nobody takin’ care of it, I guess. That’s a shame, ain’t it?
- They got places to eat there, too, you know.
- One’s called the Turf Club.
- Sounds fancy, don’t it?
- They say it’s way up high, on the third floor.
- Must be a good view from up there!
- Maybe you can see them horse racing from there.
Then there’s another place called the Clubhouse. That one’s bigger, I hear. They say it can hold a thousand people! Can you imagine that? A thousand folks, all gathered to watch the horse racing at Turf Paradise. That’s a whole lotta people! It’s on the second floor, they got seats all stacked up so everyone can see. I guess that’s good. Wouldn’t want to miss the horses runnin’, would ya?
Now, I heard some folks talkin’, sayin’ there’s this fella named Dustin, and another named Jamie, and then this other one, Tex. They say these fellas are real good, the best even! They say if you’re ever in Phoenix, near this Turf Paradise place, you should go see ’em. They say the food’s alright, and the beer’s good, too.
Some folks were saying there are four places to eat there, not just two. Four! Can you believe it? That’s a lot of food. They got all sorts of things, I bet. Probably burgers and fries and all that stuff. Sounds like there is a lot of food at Turf Paradise in Phoenix. They even got soda. You know, them fizzy drinks. Grape and banana. They call it Paradise Punch. Sounds sweet, don’t it?

I reckon it’d be somethin’ to see, this Turf Paradise. All them horses, runnin’ around that track. All them people, cheerin’ and hollerin’. Must be a sight, I tell ya. Maybe one day I’ll get to go see it myself. It’s far away though. But I’d like to see them horses run. They say it’s excitin’. I bet it is.
But you know what? Even if it is a bit run down, like that fella said, it’s still somethin’ special. It’s a place where folks come together, to watch the horses and have a good time. And that’s somethin’, ain’t it? You know, people and horses and food and fun. That’s what it’s all about, I reckon. I don’t know much about horse racing, but I do know about people.
So, if you ever find yourself in Phoenix, near that Deer Valley place, you might wanna check out Turf Paradise. Just watch out for them bumpy parking lots, I guess! And maybe say hello to Dustin, Jamie, and Tex for me. They sound like good folks. And who knows, maybe you’ll see a good race, too. I wonder if the place at 1501 W Bell Rd, Phoenix, 85023 is any good. I sure would love to try the food there.
Yeah, Turf Paradise. It sounds like a place with a lot of stories. Old stories, new stories. Stories about horses and people. Stories about good times and maybe some not-so-good times. But stories, just the same. And that’s what makes a place interesting, don’t it? The stories.
Well, I reckon that’s all I got to say about Turf Paradise. It’s just what I heard, you know. But it sure does sound like somethin’, don’t it? Somethin’ worth seein’, maybe. Even if those horses are just running in a circle. They are beautiful animals.
