Okay, here is my sharing about my experience playing at Torrey Pines South Course:

Torrey Pines South Course: Heres How to Play This Famous Course!

So, I finally got to play the Torrey Pines South Course the other day. You know, the one where they held the U.S. Open and stuff. It’s down in La Jolla, which is already a pretty sweet spot. This place is owned by the city, so it’s a public course, which is cool. Anyway, the South Course is supposed to be the tougher one of the two courses there.

I showed up early, grabbed my clubs, and headed to the first tee. Man, the views of the Pacific Ocean from up there are just insane. The course is literally on a cliff overlooking the ocean. It’s kind of distracting, to be honest, but in a good way!

  • First Hole: They say the fairway on the first hole is pretty wide, so you can really let loose with your driver. I took their word for it and bombed one down there. It felt great, but I still had a long way to the green. No way I was getting there in two, but I managed a decent approach shot and two-putted for a par. Not a bad start!
  • Middle Holes: The rest of the front nine was a blur of amazing views and some pretty tough holes. There were a few where I definitely could have used a few more yards off the tee. I mean, some of those fairways are narrow, and if you miss them, you’re in trouble. I spent a fair amount of time in the rough, let me tell you.
  • Back Nine: Things didn’t get any easier on the back nine. There were some seriously long par 4s and a couple of par 3s that were playing into the wind. I think I used every club in my bag at some point. My short game saved me a few times, but I definitely took some bogeys.

My highlight was probably the par 3 hole, which was playing right along the cliff edge, totally nerve-wracking but unforgettable.

By the time I got to the 18th hole, I was pretty beat. But it was such an awesome experience. I didn’t play my best round, but I didn’t expect to. Just being there, walking the same fairways as the pros, and taking in those views was worth it. I even snapped some photos before leaving because I know I would never forget that awesome view.

If you ever get a chance to play Torrey Pines South, do it! Just be prepared for a challenge and don’t forget your camera.
