Okay, so I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, and I finally got around to diving deep into the Saints’ 2017 season. It was a wild ride, and I wanted to document everything I did to relive it.
Getting Started
First, I needed to gather all the info I could. I mean, you can’t just jump into something like this without doing your homework, right?
- Scoured the web: I spent hours just looking for anything and everything related to that season. Game summaries, player stats, articles, you name it.
- Old game footage: Found some old recordings. It takes time to find good, full-length ones!
Building the Timeline
With all this data, it was time to get organized. It’s impossible keeping everything straight in my head. So I created a timeline.
- Started with the basics: I made a simple spreadsheet. Listed out each game, the opponent, the date, and the final score. Just the core facts to start.
- Added the details: Then came the fun part! I started adding in key moments from each game. Big plays, turnovers, injuries. I started with my memory of the game.
Watching and Taking Notes
The spreadsheet was cool, but I needed to see the action. So the watch-through began.
- Game by game: I watched each game, one by one, in order. It’s the only way to really get the feel for how the season progressed.
- Notes, notes, notes: As I watched, I jotted down everything that stood out. Not just the obvious stuff, but the little things. A great block, a missed tackle, a specific formation.
- Stats overload: Checked my notes about stats and compaired them to my records. I was surprised by a few things. Like, I totally forgot how good some players were that season.
Putting It All Together
After all that watching and note-taking, I went back to my timeline and REALLY fleshed it out. Then I added some details about the whole experience, using information from the games, articles and summaries that I found.
- The good, the bad, the ugly:I made sure to highlight all the ups and downs. The winning streaks, the tough losses, the comeback victories. All of it.
- Context is key: Finally, I added in some extra info. Stuff like what the media was saying at the time, any off-field drama, and how the fans were reacting.
It was a serious project, but totally worth it. I feel like I relived that entire 2017 Saints season. It brought back a lot of memories, good and bad and now I finally understand everything that went down. If anyone is interested, I’m thinking about my next deep-dive.
