Alright, so I’ve just gotten back from Basel, and let me tell you, it was a trip! I mean, I’ve heard things, seen pictures, but being there in person? Whole different story.

First off, I booked a cruise that docked right at this Dreiländereck port. It’s where Switzerland, France, and Germany meet. Pretty cool spot, but it took me about 40 minutes to get to the city center. I had to find the best deals about this trip, including the cruise and accommodation, you know, budget and stuff.
Once I got into the city, I decided to hit the Old Town. Everyone says the best way to see it is on foot, and they’re right. Everything’s so close together. I stumbled upon these circular walking tours – five of them! Each one showed me different parts of the Old Town, little hidden corners and all that. I ended up seeing the big museums and some really beautiful squares along the way.
-
Walked around the Old Town, because, why not? It’s the thing to do.
-
Found those walking tours, which were a lifesaver. No way I would’ve found those tiny alleys on my own.
-
Checked out the museums, because culture, right? And those squares, they were perfect for just sitting and people-watching.
A Mix of Old and New
Basel isn’t just some old city, though. It’s got this modern vibe mixed in with all the history. You’ve got the Rhine River just flowing through, which is kind of peaceful, and then all these art galleries and old buildings. It’s like stepping back in time and fast-forwarding, all at once.
I also signed up for a guided walking tour, one of those two-hour ones. Just enough to get a taste of the city without dragging on. It was perfect, really. We skipped all the usual touristy stuff and went straight for the interesting bits, like a private tour through the medieval parts. It was private, which made it more personal.
There was this other tour where a guide took us around, telling stories from way back when. It made the whole place feel alive, you know? Like you could almost see the history happening right in front of you.
Oh, and I even considered those boat tours. Apparently, you can sail to Bern, Luzern, Zurich, or even the Swiss Alps from Basel. It sounded tempting, especially with the personalized guidance and priority access, but I was more into walking this time.
So, yeah, that was Basel. A bit of walking, a lot of history, and just a really cool city. If you’re ever thinking about it, just go. It’s worth it.
