Hey everyone, it’s your boy back again with another wild ride, quite literally this time! So, I got my hands on the 2017 KTM 390 Duke, and you know I had to see what this beast could do. I’ve been itching to test its top speed, and let me tell you, the experience was something else.

Testing the Limits: 2017 KTM 390 Duke Top Speed Explained.

First off, getting this bike was a bit of a mission. I had to call up a few buddies, pull some strings, you know how it is. Finally got it though, and man, was it worth it. It’s got this sleek, aggressive look that just screams “ride me fast!” And fast I went.

Preparation

  • Checked the Bike: Before any serious riding, I gave the Duke a thorough once-over. Tires, brakes, oil levels – the whole shebang. Safety first, always. I mean this bike can push it, with a 373cc engine. The fuel tank capacity is 13.5 liters.
  • Gear Up: I’m talking full leathers, helmet, gloves, boots. Look, when you’re pushing a bike to its limits, you don’t wanna be caught lacking. Plus, it makes you feel like a total badass.
  • Picked the Right Spot: This was crucial. I needed a long, straight stretch of road with minimal traffic. Found this spot just outside the city, almost deserted, perfect for what I had in mind. It has a ground clearance of 151mm which is quite good.

The Test

Alright, so here’s where it gets juicy. I started off slow, getting a feel for the bike, how it handles, how it accelerates. The Duke is nimble, responsive. After a few runs, I was ready to push it. I crouched down, gripped the handles, and just gunned it.

  • Acceleration: This thing can move! From 0 to 60 mph in about 5.53 seconds. It’s like a rocket on two wheels. I did a couple of acceleration runs, just to get a feel for that initial burst of speed.
  • Building Speed: I kept pushing, the engine roaring, the wind screaming past me. It felt insane! The bike handled it like a champ, though. Steady, no wobbles, just pure power.
  • Top Speed Run: Here we go, the moment of truth. I pushed it as hard as I dared. The speedometer climbed, and I hit around 167 km/h (roughly 104 mph). It might have gone a bit faster, but honestly, that was plenty fast for me. The mileage of the bike stands at around 25-30 kmpl while the top-speed offered by Duke 390 is 167 kmph (approximate).

Post-Ride Thoughts

After the adrenaline rush, I pulled over, took a breather. Man, what a ride! The 2017 KTM 390 Duke is a beast. It’s not just about the speed, it’s about how it makes you feel – powerful, free, alive. I’m pretty sure that in Kathmandu, I exceeded the speed limit by a lot, haha.

  • Respect the Machine: This bike is no joke. It’s powerful and needs to be handled with respect. I wouldn’t recommend testing its limits unless you really know what you’re doing.
  • It’s a Thrill: But let me tell you, the thrill of hitting that top speed, feeling the engine’s power, the wind, it’s addictive.
  • Would I Do It Again?: In a heartbeat. But maybe next time, I’ll find an even longer stretch of road. You know, just to see if we can push it a little further. With a custom made windshield, it would be better.

So, that’s my story of testing the top speed of the 2017 KTM 390 Duke. It was a blast, and I hope you enjoyed the ride along with me. Stay tuned for more adventures, and as always, ride safe, ride smart, and keep the rubber side down!
