So, I wanted to learn how to say “horse” in French. I started by looking around online for some simple guides.

I found a bunch of stuff, but a lot of it was kinda confusing. There was this one website that promised to teach you the word “horse,” but it ended up just showing pictures of horses. I mean, I know what a horse looks like, I wanted to know the French word!
Then I bumped into this other guide. It talked about different ways to say “horse” in French, but it was all jumbled up. There were some helpful bits, though. It mentioned that “cheval” is the word for a single horse, and “chevaux” is used for more than one horse.
I tried to put those words into sentences, like “I saw a horse” or “There are many horses in the field.” That was a bit tricky. I kept mixing up when to use “cheval” and “chevaux.” It’s like, one is for just one horse and the other is for a bunch of them, but it is easy to forget. I did this a lot of times.
My Practice Notes
Here’s what I wrote down during my practice:
- cheval – horse (just one)
- chevaux – horses (more than one)
- des chevaux – some horses
I also saw something about “des souris,” which means “some mice.” That’s cool, but I was focused on horses. I practiced saying “cheval” and “chevaux” over and over, trying to get the hang of it. I even tried to make up little stories in my head, like “A cheval is running in the field” or “Des chevaux are eating grass.”

It took a while, but I think I’m starting to get it. It’s not perfect, but I can now say “horse” in French, both singular and plural. Still, I need more practice with using it in full sentences. Maybe next time, I’ll try to learn more about horse-related words in French. But for now, I’m pretty happy with my progress!
