Okay, so, Richaun Holmes, right? That trade was something I was messing around with a while back. Let me tell you how I got into it.

It all started with me just being bored, honestly. I was scrolling through some NBA trade rumors and saw Holmes’ name pop up. Figured, why not see what I could cook up myself? I mean, everyone thinks they’re a GM these days, right?
First thing I did: Jumped on the trade machine. You know, that ESPN thing. Gotta see if the salaries even remotely match. That’s always the first hurdle. Ain’t no point in dreaming up some crazy deal if the numbers don’t work.
So, Holmes was making decent money, needed to find a team that A) needed a big, B) had some salaries to send back that wouldn’t totally cripple the Kings, and C) maybe had a draft pick or two to sweeten the pot. That’s where the real fun began.
- Started by looking at teams with injury problems. Always a good place to start. Teams needing a short-term fix might be willing to overpay a little.
- Then I checked out teams with cap space. They might be able to absorb Holmes’ salary without sending back too much. But usually, those teams are rebuilding and don’t wanna give up assets.
- Finally, I just started plugging and chugging different players. It was basically trial and error. One player here, another player there. Seeing what worked, what didn’t. Drove me nuts for a couple of hours.
Ended up focusing on teams in the middle of the pack. You know, those teams that are decent but not really contenders. They’re often the ones looking for that one piece to push them over the edge. Whether Holmes was that piece? Debatable. But that was my thought process.
I won’t bore you with all the details of every failed trade I tried. There were plenty. But I did manage to come up with a couple that looked halfway decent on paper. I even posted them on a basketball forum. Got roasted, naturally. But hey, that’s the internet for ya.

The closest I got was a deal with… I think it was Charlotte. Something like Holmes for a young player and a second-round pick. Salary matched, filled a need for both teams. But I think the Kings ended up wanting more. Or maybe Charlotte just wasn’t that interested in Holmes. Who knows? These things are complicated.
In the end, nothing happened. Holmes stayed put. But it was a fun little exercise. Gave me a better appreciation for how hard it is to actually make a trade in the NBA. It’s not just about finding a player you like. It’s about the money, the fit, the future, and a million other things. So yeah, that’s my Richaun Holmes trade adventure. Didn’t work out, but I had a good time trying.
