I was feeling pretty down in the dumps the other day, you know? Just one of those days where everything feels gray and pointless. Then I remembered something I read a while back about how important it is to make time for pleasure. Sounds obvious, right? But I realized I hadn’t been doing much of that lately. So, I decided to make a change. I mean, I decided to take action on it.

Make a List
First thing I did was, I grabbed a pen and paper and started listing out all the things that bring me joy. Nothing was too small or silly. From enjoying a good cup of coffee to dancing around my living room to cheesy 80s music, I wrote it all down. It was actually pretty fun, and it reminded me of all these little things I used to do that made me happy. I listed many many items in the paper.
Take Actions
Then came the hard part: actually doing those things. It’s one thing to make a list, it’s another to actually follow through. But I was determined. I started small. I made sure to savor my morning coffee instead of just gulping it down. It was just a normal coffee, but I did enjoyed it that morning.
- I put on some music while I worked and allowed myself to take a few dance breaks throughout the day.
- I called up a friend I hadn’t talked to in ages, and we had a great laugh.
- I spent an hour in the evening reading a book, just for the fun of it.
- I cooked a delicious dinner for myself.
- I went to the gym.
Keep It Up
It wasn’t easy at first. I had to actively push myself to make time for these things. But slowly, it started to become a habit. I found myself looking forward to these little moments of joy throughout the day. And you know what? It made a huge difference. I started feeling more energized, more positive, and just generally more like myself again. I did feel the power of pleasure.
So, that’s my little experiment with prioritizing pleasure. It’s not rocket science, but it’s definitely something I’d recommend trying if you’re feeling stuck in a rut. Just remember, it’s about the little things. And it’s about making a conscious effort to bring more joy into your life, every single day. Give it a shot, I tried it already, and it felt pretty damn good!
