My Corey Cove Attempt
So, I heard about this place, Corey Cove. People online made it sound like this hidden gem, you know? Pictures looked amazing. Not too far, supposedly. I figured, why not? Needed to clear my head anyway.

Didn’t do a ton of planning, gotta be honest. Grabbed my old hiking boots, threw some water and snacks in a backpack. Looked at a map on my phone for like, five minutes. Seemed straightforward enough. What could go wrong, right?
Got to the trailhead. Looked a bit rougher than the pictures, but okay. Started walking. The first bit was alright, just a normal trail. Then it got steep. Like, really steep. And muddy. My boots, which I thought were fine, felt like bricks and had zero grip.
Kept pushing though. I’m stubborn like that. Got to a point where the trail just kinda… vanished. Just rocks and thick bushes. Checked the phone map – signal was gone. Brilliant. Tried to guess the way, scrambled over some rocks. Slipped once, nearly twisted my ankle. That kinda shook me up.
Sat down on a rock, sweating, covered in mud. Looked around. It wasn’t majestic or peaceful like the photos. It was just… hard. And I was totally unprepared. Felt pretty stupid, actually.
Decided to turn back. Took forever, slipping and sliding downhill. Was way harder going down than coming up, strangely enough. By the time I got back to the car, I was exhausted, scratched up, and just felt defeated.

Here’s the thing I realized:
- You can’t just jump into stuff based on nice pictures.
- Preparation actually matters, even for a supposedly simple hike.
- Sometimes, turning back is the smart move, not quitting.
Yeah, Corey Cove kicked my butt that day. Maybe I’ll try again sometime, but next time? I’m bringing better boots, a real map, and maybe checking the weather first. Lesson learned, the hard way, as usual.
