Okay, so, I saw this thing online about a BMW three-wheel bike and I got curious. I mean, a three-wheeled bike from BMW? That’s not something you see every day. So, I decided to give it a try and build one myself. It sounded like a fun weekend project.
First, I gathered all the stuff I needed. I already had an old bike lying around, so that was a good start. Then I went to the hardware store and picked up some extra metal tubes, a couple of wheels, some nuts and bolts, and a few other bits and pieces. Nothing fancy, just regular stuff you can find anywhere.
Then came the fun part – putting it all together. I started by dismantling the old bike. I only needed the front part with the handlebars and the front wheel. I set the back part aside – didn’t need that.
Next, I started working on the frame for the two back wheels. This was a bit tricky. I took those metal tubes and started bending and welding them together. I’m not a pro welder, mind you, but I can manage a decent weld. I basically made a big U-shape with the tubes, making sure it was wide enough for the two back wheels.

Once the U-shape frame was done, I attached the wheels. That was pretty straightforward. Just bolted them on. Then, I connected this whole back part to the front part of the bike. More welding, more bolts, and a lot of adjustments to make sure everything was lined up right.
The Test Run
After a whole weekend of tinkering, it was finally ready. I wheeled it out to the street, feeling a bit nervous, I’ll admit. I hopped on and started pedaling. It was a bit wobbly at first. You need to use your body a lot more. But after a few minutes, I got the hang of it. It was actually pretty fun! Definitely a head-turner. I mean, who expects to see a homemade three-wheeled bike cruising down the street?
It’s not perfect, of course. It’s a bit clunky, and turning takes some getting used to. But hey, I built a three-wheeled bike! And it actually works! It’s a great conversation starter, and it’s a lot of fun to ride around the neighborhood. It turns out, building a three-wheel bike was easier than I thought, although I did spend an entire weekend on it. And I had fun.
