Okay, so I was messing around with my golf swing, right? And I really wanted to nail that bunker shot that Bryson DeChambeau did on the 18th. Let me tell you, it wasn’t easy, but I think I’ve got something to share. I started by watching a bunch of videos of Bryson’s shot, trying to see exactly what he did.

First, I grabbed my sand wedge and headed to the practice bunker at my local course. I dropped a few balls in the sand, trying to get a similar lie to what Bryson had. The first few attempts? Yeah, they were rough. I either chunked it, and the ball didn’t go anywhere, or I bladed it, and it went way too far. No good.
Then, I started to focus on a few key things:
- Stance: I widened my stance a bit more than usual and made sure my weight was more on my front foot. I also opened my stance slightly, aiming a little left of the target (I’m right-handed).
- Clubface: This was important. I opened the clubface a lot, almost like I was trying to flop it. But not quite a full flop, you know?
- Swing: I tried to make a longer, more sweeping swing, rather than a short, choppy one. I focused on hitting the sand about an inch or two behind the ball, trying to splash it out.
I spent a good hour just hitting shot after shot, making small adjustments each time. It was frustrating at first, but I could feel myself getting a little better with each swing. I started to get a feel for how much sand to take and how hard to swing. The ball started to come out higher and softer, landing closer to the pin.
Getting There
By the end of my practice session, I wasn’t hitting it exactly like Bryson (let’s be real, I’m no pro), but I was definitely getting closer. I managed to get a few shots to stop pretty quickly on the green, which felt amazing.
It’s all about practice, practice, practice. And, you know, paying attention to the details. This bunker shot is tough, but it’s definitely doable with some work. I’m going to keep at it, and hopefully, I’ll be able to pull it off on the course soon. Maybe not under the same pressure as Bryson, but hey, a guy can dream, right?

Anyway, that’s my little adventure in trying to copy a pro’s shot. It was fun, it was challenging, and I learned a lot. I’m hoping to take that learning to the next step. Maybe one day I’ll be able to hit that shot perfectly, but for now, I’m just happy to be making progress. So go out there, give it a try, and let me know how it goes!
