Mastering the 9 Wood Club: Simple Tips for Better Shots.

Okay, so I’ve been meaning to mess around with my golf clubs, specifically the 9-wood. I’ve heard some folks talking about it, and I got curious. I don’t have a 9-wood in my bag, so I thought, “Why not try to create one?” It’s not like I’m a pro or anything, just a regular guy who likes to hit the links on weekends.

First, I dug through my garage to find some old clubs. I’ve got a bunch of random ones I’ve collected over the years – some I bought, some were given to me, you know the deal. I managed to find an old 7-wood that I didn’t really use anymore. It was a bit beat up, but the shaft seemed okay.

The Experiment Begins

Next, I needed to figure out the loft. I did a bit of quick searching around, and it seems like a 9-wood usually has a loft somewhere between, like, 24 and 28 degrees, something like that. My 7-wood was probably around 21 degrees, if I had to guess.

So, I got out my tools – nothing fancy, just a basic club-bending tool I picked up a while back. I clamped the 7-wood head in my vise, being careful not to scratch it up too much (though, honestly, it already had its fair share of dings). Then, I started carefully bending the hosel. I went slow, little by little, checking the loft with a protractor thingy I have.

  • First bend: Barely moved it.
  • Second bend: Got it up a couple of degrees.
  • Third bend: Almost there…

I kept going until I got the loft to about 26 degrees. It wasn’t perfect, but it was close enough for my experiment. I’m not trying to win any tournaments here, just see how this thing plays.

The Test Drive

I took my newly “created” 9-wood out to the driving range. Honestly, it felt… weird. I mean, it was basically a 7-wood with a slightly different loft. I took a few swings, trying to get a feel for it.

The ball flight was definitely higher than my usual 7-wood. It felt easier to get the ball up in the air, which was kind of nice. Distance-wise, it was a bit shorter than my 7-wood, but that was expected.

I spent about an hour hitting balls with it, trying different swings, different stances, all that jazz. It was… interesting. Not a game-changer, but definitely a different feel.

All I want to say is, I did the thing, and finished my own 9 wood club.
