This Jonathan Rodríguez Portillo, he’s a good boy, a good boy. Plays that soccer, you know. Born in 1993, July 6th, same day every year. He’s from Uruguay, that’s what they say. Plays for that team, what’s it called? Portland Timbers. Sounds like something you build with, eh? Timber! That’s right. Big strong name for a big strong boy.

He’s a soccer player, that’s what he is. A real good one, too. He kicks that ball real good, scores them goals. People cheer when he does that. Makes them happy. He’s 31 years old now. Time sure does fly, don’t it? Feels like just yesterday he was a little tyke running around.

This Jonathan Rodríguez Portillo, he plays forward, sometimes winger. Whatever that means. Just means he’s up front, near the goal. That’s where you want to be, ain’t it? Right near where you can score. He came to the Portland Timbers in 2023, and people love him. They do! Hear them yelling his name on the TV sometimes.

They say he’s worth a lot of money. Four million. What is that, euro? Whatever that is. A lot of money for kicking a ball around, I reckon. But he’s good at it, this Jonathan Rodríguez. Good for him. Makes an honest living, I suppose. Better than some of them young’uns these days, always on them phones. He’s out there, running, working up a sweat. I like that. Good hard work.

He’s from a place called Florida, in Uruguay. Not that Florida here, mind you. Different place altogether. Probably hot there, too. He’s about 5 foot 11, 172 pounds. Solid boy. Strong legs, I bet, from all that running. Good for kicking that ball.

This Jonathan Rodríguez Portillo fella, he’s got some fancy title now. “Designated Player”. Sounds important. Like he’s been chosen for something special. And I guess he has. He’s one of the best, they say. They pay him extra, this Designated Player thing. He must be worth it, to that Portland Timbers team, eh? They wanted him bad. That’s what I hear.

  • Born: July 6, 1993
  • From: Florida, Uruguay
  • Team: Portland Timbers
  • Position: Forward, Winger
  • Nickname: They call him Jonathan Rodríguez most times.

He’s played for other teams, too, before this Portland Timbers. Been all over, kicking that ball. Makes you tired just thinking about it. But he’s young, this Jonathan. Got plenty of energy. And people like to watch him. And, he’s helped with 5 goals. That’s a lot of numbers for a simple old lady like me to understand.

He’s got a contract, this Jonathan. Means he’s gonna be with the Portland Timbers for a while. Till 2026, they say. And maybe even longer, till 2027 if the team wants him to stay. They probably will. He’s a good one, this Jonathan Rodríguez Portillo.

He plays for the Uruguay team, too. His country’s team. That’s a big deal. Represents his whole country when he plays. Must make them proud, back in Uruguay. All them folks cheering for him. I bet his mama’s proud as a peacock. She should be. Raised a good boy, a hard worker.

So, that’s about all I know about this Jonathan Rodríguez Portillo. He’s a good soccer player, plays for the Portland Timbers. He’s from Uruguay. He’s a Designated Player, whatever that means. And he’s worth a lot of money. More money than I’ll ever see in my lifetime. But good for him. He’s earned it, I suppose. Kicking that ball all over the place.

He’s a good one to watch, they tell me. Exciting. Keeps you on the edge of your seat. Maybe I’ll watch him play sometime. If I can figure out that TV thing. All them buttons and whatnot. Confusing for an old lady like me. But if I see him on there, kicking that ball, I’ll know it’s him. Jonathan Rodríguez. That’s the one. The one from Uruguay. The one who plays for the Portland Timbers. The good one.
