Okay, so the other day I stumbled upon this hilarious idea for a photoshoot at, of all places, JCPenney. I know, right? Who even thinks of JCPenney for a funny photoshoot? But that’s what made it so appealing!
So, I grabbed my best friend, and we headed straight to the portrait studio. We didn’t have a solid plan, just a vague idea of awkward family photos, but with a twist. I’m talking mismatched outfits, goofy poses, and maybe even some props.
The Preparation (Or Lack Thereof)
We spent about five minutes in the car brainstorming.
- Should we wear the worst clothes we can find?
- Try to recreate those classic ’80s laser backgrounds?
- Embrace the sheer cheesiness of it all?
We did a little shopping before, so we decided for a mix of all of the above, we didn’t prepare any special dressing, We were aiming for “intentionally awkward,” not “actually fashionable.”
The Photoshoot
When we walked into the JCPenney studio, the photographer looked…confused, to say the least. We explained our vision, or at least we tried. “Think awkward family photos, but, like, really awkward,” I think I said.
She shrugged, bless her heart, she just went with it. We started posing, pulling out the most ridiculous faces we could muster. We were laughing so hard, so, the photographer started getting into it too, I think!
She suggested some poses, some classic family photo setups, and we just amped up the awkwardness. We did the classic hand-on-shoulder pose, but with the most forced smiles imaginable.
The Result
A few days later, we got the photos. Oh. My. God. They were even better (worse?) than I could have imagined. We were crying with laughter looking at them. We had achieved peak awkwardness, and it was glorious.
Honestly, it was one of the most fun photoshoots I’ve ever done. It was so silly and low-pressure, and the results were pure comedic gold. If you’re looking for a fun, unconventional photoshoot idea, I highly recommend hitting up your local JCPenney. Just be prepared to confuse the photographer a little.
