So, the other day I stumbled across this thing online, people talking about a live-action Hercules movie. Not exactly news, Disney’s remaking everything, right? But the name that kept popping up was Michael B. Jordan for Hercules himself. Caught my eye, you know?

My first thought was, “Okay, I see it.” Physically, the guy’s built. No question there. We’ve all seen Creed, Black Panther. He looks like he could play a demigod, strength-wise. And he’s got that star power Disney loves.
Digging into the idea
I didn’t just leave it there, though. Started chewing on it a bit. Hercules, the Disney animated one, he wasn’t just muscles. He had this awkward charm, kinda goofy but earnest. Big heart. That’s the character I remember. So, I started wondering, does Michael B. Jordan fit that?
Honestly, I wasn’t sure. He’s usually got this intense vibe, very cool, very controlled. Even when he’s playing vulnerable characters, there’s a certain weight to him. Animated Hercules was lighter, more… bubbly?
I spent a bit of time just picturing scenes. Could I see him singing “Go the Distance”? Maybe. Could I see him doing the goofy training montage with Phil? Harder to imagine, for me at least. It felt like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, maybe.
- The Look: Yeah, he looks strong. Check.
- The Charisma: He’s got charisma, but is it the right kind of charisma for this Hercules?
- The Vibe: Animated Herc was optimistic, almost naive sometimes. MBJ usually plays characters who feel more grounded, maybe a bit world-weary.
Why this casting idea, then?
I figured this whole buzz probably started with fans. Someone probably made some cool fan art, it got shared around, and boom. Happens all the time. It gets people talking, generates clicks. Doesn’t mean Disney is actually considering it, although who knows these days?

It also made me think about how these live-action remakes work. Are they trying to carbon copy the cartoon, or do something new? If they’re going for a totally different take, maybe a grittier, more serious Hercules? Then yeah, Michael B. Jordan makes a lot more sense. He’d kill a more dramatic version.
But if they want that same song-and-dance, slightly comedic feel of the original? Then maybe not. It really hangs on what kind of movie they’re aiming to make. Trying to please everyone usually ends up pleasing no one.
My two cents
So after turning it over in my head, here’s where I landed: It’s an interesting idea, for sure. Gets you thinking. And I get why people suggest him – he’s a huge talent, looks the part in one way. But for the Hercules I grew up with? I’m not totally sold. It feels like it would have to be a very different Hercules. Which, maybe that’s the point. Maybe that’s what a live-action remake should do. Stop trying to just replicate the cartoon and find its own path. If that’s the plan, then okay, maybe Michael B. Jordan could be pretty awesome.
It’s just fan talk for now, probably. But it was an interesting mental exercise, spending time thinking through the whys and why-nots. Keeps the brain working, I guess.
