Okay, so I wanted to mess around with the Canucks emblem, you know, the hockey team? I’ve always thought it was a pretty cool design. So, I decided to try and recreate it myself.

First, I opened up my design software. I use this program called “ProSketch” – it’s pretty simple to use, nothing too fancy. I started with a blank canvas, ready to go.
Next, I needed a reference image. I just did a quick image search and found a good, clear picture of the emblem. I imported that image into ProSketch so I could have it right there next to my workspace.
Now, the fun part – drawing! I grabbed the shape tool and started with the basic outline of the “C”. It’s kind of like a wonky rectangle with a rounded top, right? I played around with the anchor points until I got the shape pretty close.
- I used the curve tool to get that smooth, curved line on the top of the “C.”
- Then I made the bottom part a bit sharper, more like a fin.
After that, I needed to make the inner part, the actual orca. This was a bit trickier. I used the pen tool for this part, carefully tracing the outline of the orca in the reference image.
- I started with the orca’s back, which is pretty much a straight line.
- Then I drew the head, with that little dip in the middle.
- The tail was the hardest part, getting those curves just right took some time.
Once I had the outline done, I filled it in with the right colors. I just used the color picker tool to sample the colors from the reference image – easy peasy.
Finally, I added the white space inside the orca. I just drew another shape over the top of the orca and made it white. Boom, there you have it! My own version of the Canucks emblem.
Reflections
It wasn’t perfect, but it was a fun little project. I learned a bit more about using my design software, and I got a cool little emblem out of it. Maybe I’ll try tweaking it some more later, but for now, I’m pretty happy with it.
