Alright, so the other day I was hanging out with my buddy, and we were trying to figure out something to play together. We’re both big fans of pirate games, and Sea of Thieves kept popping up. We were really hoping to play it together on my couch, like the good old days of split-screen gaming. So, I started digging around to see if Sea of Thieves even supports that.

Does Sea of Thieves Have Couch Co-op? My Investigation
First, I fired up my trusty search engine. Just typed in “Sea of Thieves couch co-op” to see what would come up. The first few results were pretty clear, but I like to be thorough, you know?
I spent a good amount of time looking through forums, gaming websites, and even the official Sea of Thieves website. I wanted to be absolutely sure before I got our hopes up.
Sadly, I found my answer, I went to multiple sources just to make sure, and they all said the same thing.
- I checked gaming forums.
- I looked at articles on gaming news sites.
- I even went to the official Sea of Thieves website.
The Result?
Well, it’s a bummer. Turns out, Sea of Thieves doesn’t have any split-screen or local co-op options. It’s all online. Every source I checked confirmed it. Apparently, the game needs a constant internet connection, which is probably the reason why they never built in a split-screen mode.

So, yeah, that was a letdown. We ended up playing something else, I guess Sea of Thieves just wasn’t meant to be for our couch co-op session. Disappointing, but at least now, I and you, know for sure.
