Okay, so I was working on this document, you know, typing away, and I got to the word “attendance.” Or was it “attendence”? I stared at it for a good minute, totally unsure.

My Little Experiment
I decided to do a little digging. First, I typed both versions into my document. The red squiggly line immediately popped up under “attendence.” Okay, that’s one point for “attendance.”
But I wanted to be sure. So, I opened my browser and did a quick search. I simply typed “attendence or attendance.”
The search results overwhelmingly favored “attendance.” I saw a bunch of dictionary definitions and grammar websites, all confirming that “attendance” is the correct spelling.
The Results
- “Attendence” has no support. It seems no one in the history ever considered the word exist.
- “Attendance” is the correct word. Everyone is sure about that.
Case closed! It’s definitely “attendance.” I went back to my document and corrected my spelling. It’s such a small thing, but it felt good to get it right. I learned my lesson: when in doubt, double-check!
