Okay, folks, let’s talk about getting from Newark Airport (EWR) to Yankee Stadium. I had to do this trip recently, and man, it can seem daunting at first, but it’s totally doable. Here’s how I did it, step by step, and what I learned along the way.

First things first, I landed at Newark. I was tired, hungry, and just wanted to get to the game. I grabbed my bag from baggage claim – always a small victory when it actually shows up, right?
My Game Plan: Train All the Way
I’d done a little research beforehand (always a good idea!), and decided the train was my best bet. It seemed like the most cost-effective and (hopefully) fastest way to avoid crazy New York traffic.
So, I followed the signs for the AirTrain. This thing is free and zips you around the airport to different terminals and, most importantly, to the Newark Airport Rail Station.
Getting on the AirTrain was easy enough. Just make sure you’re heading towards the Rail Station, not another terminal. There are usually plenty of signs and airport staff to help if you’re unsure.
Once I got to the Newark Airport Rail Station, I had to buy a ticket. There are ticket machines everywhere, and they’re pretty straightforward to use. I selected “Penn Station New York” as my destination.

- Important Tip: Make sure you buy a ticket to New York Penn Station, NOT Newark Penn Station. They are very different places!
I hopped on a NJ Transit train heading towards New York Penn Station. These trains come pretty regularly, so I didn’t have to wait long.
The ride itself was smooth. I just sat back, relaxed, and watched the scenery go by. It took maybe 20-30 minutes to get to Penn Station.
Penn Station to Yankee Stadium: Subway Time!
Once I arrived at Penn Station, I was in the heart of Manhattan. Penn Station is HUGE, so I took a deep breath and followed the signs for the Subway.
I needed to get on the D train (uptown, of course!). I bought a MetroCard from a vending machine (you can also use OMNY tap-to-pay now, which is super convenient) and swiped my way through the turnstiles.
I Double-checked the signs to make sure I was going in the right direction and took the D train uptown to 161st Street-Yankee Stadium stop.

I made sure get on the D train heading uptown. The subway platforms can be a little confusing, so don’t be afraid to ask someone if you’re not sure. New Yorkers might seem gruff, but they’re usually helpful.
The subway ride was…well, it was a New York subway ride. It was crowded, a little noisy, but it got me where I needed to go. It took about another 20-30 minutes, depending on the time of day.
Victory! (Almost)
Once I got off at the 161st Street-Yankee Stadium stop, I followed the crowds (and the signs) and, boom, there it was – Yankee Stadium! It’s pretty hard to miss, it’s massive.
So, that’s how I did it. Newark to Yankee Stadium, all by train and subway. Overall, I’d say it took me about 1.5 to 2 hours, including all the transfers and waiting. It wasn’t the quickest way, but it was definitely an adventure, and I saved some serious cash compared to a taxi or ride-share.
I highly recommend this method to anyone!
