Alright, so I’m gonna walk you through this little project I did – making 50s themed party favors. It was a blast from the past, let me tell ya!

The Idea: Basically, a friend was throwing a 50s themed bash, and she wanted some cute, retro-ish party favors. She was super busy, so I volunteered. I mean, who doesn’t love a good themed party, right?
Brainstorming & Planning: First, I hit up Pinterest, you know, for inspo. I saw a lot of poodle skirts (too complicated!), soda shop vibes (doable!), and classic candies (definitely!). So, I decided to go for a combo of retro candy and some DIY personalized stuff.
What I Needed: Here’s the shopping list I came up with:
- Waxed paper bags (for that old-timey feel)
- Ribbon (red and white, of course)
- Retro candies: Think Tootsie Rolls, Atomic Fireballs, maybe some bubble gum.
- Small notebooks (like the kind you doodled in during class)
- Pens (black and white, basic)
- Stickers: 50s themed – think cars, music notes, diners
- Cardstock paper: to print out some personalized tags
Making the Goodie Bags: Okay, this was the fun part. I started by printing out little tags on the cardstock. I designed them to say things like “Thanks for Rockin’ Around!” and “Cool Cat!” Super cheesy, but that’s the point, right?
Then, I assembled the candy bags. I layered the different candies in the waxed paper bags, trying to make them look all colorful and appealing. After I filled each bag with candy, I folded over the top, punched a hole, and tied it with the red and white ribbon. I also attached one of the little personalized tags to each bag.

DIY Notebooks: For the notebooks, I kept it simple. I grabbed the plain black and white notebooks and let the stickers do the work. I just slapped on a few 50s themed stickers on each one. I wanted them to look like something someone might have doodled on back in the day, so a little bit messy and fun.
Putting it All Together: Finally, I put one goodie bag and one notebook in a larger paper bag, just to make it feel a little more substantial. I added a little bit of tissue paper on top, just for presentation.
The Result: They turned out pretty darn cute! My friend loved them, and everyone at the party seemed to get a kick out of the retro candy and the personalized notebooks. It was a simple project, but it was a fun way to add a little something special to the party.
Lessons Learned: Next time, I might look into finding some small, inexpensive 50s themed trinkets to add to the bags. Maybe little plastic cars or mini records. But overall, it was a success! I’d definitely do it again.
