Alright, so today I messed around with this thing I’m calling ‘lil glitter’. It wasn’t anything massive, just a small project I had rattling around in my head.
Getting Started
First off, I found this plain little wooden box I had lying around. You know the type, cheap thing probably meant for crafts. Decided it needed jazzing up. So, I gathered my stuff. Didn’t need much:
- The box itself, obviously.
- Some leftover blue paint I found in the shed.
- An old brush, bit stiff but it works.
- A tube of basic white glue.
- And the main event: a small pot of silver glitter.
I put down some old newspaper on the kitchen table because, let’s be real, glitter gets everywhere. Learned that the hard way plenty of times before.
The Process
Okay, step one was painting. Cracked open the blue paint – took a bit of effort, it was slightly dried up around the lid. Gave it a good stir. Then I just started slapping the paint onto the box. Didn’t go for perfect coverage, wanted it a bit rustic looking, you know? Covered the outside, left the inside plain. Then I had to wait for it to dry. Went and made a cup of tea.
Once the paint felt dry enough – probably rushed it a bit, but hey ho – I grabbed the glue. Squeezed out a thin layer on the lid of the box. Spread it around evenly-ish with my finger. Probably should have used a brush, but couldn’t be bothered to wash another one.
Then came the fun part. The glitter. I held the box lid over the newspaper, opened the little glitter pot, and just tipped a whole load onto the glue. Tilted the lid back and forth to make sure the glue was covered. Gave it a gentle tap on the side to shake off the loose bits back onto the paper. Honestly, even with the newspaper, glitter still managed to escape onto the table. It’s like tiny little magic dust that just wants to be free.

Wrapping Up
And… that was pretty much it. I carefully placed the lid back onto the box base, trying not to smudge the glittery glue. Then I just left the whole thing sitting on the newspaper to dry properly. Didn’t bother with sealant or anything fancy. It’s just a ‘lil glitter’ box, after all.
Checked it a few hours later. Glue was dry, glitter seemed stuck on okay. It looks… well, it looks like a small blue box with a glittery lid. Does the job. Adds a bit of sparkle to the shelf where I put it. Not a masterpiece, but it was something simple to do with my hands. Job done.
