Figuring Out This Ryan Williams College Thing
So, the other day, this question popped up – “how is Ryan Williams 17 in college?”. My first thought was, wait, the Ryan Williams? R-Willy? The guy doing insane tricks on scooters and BMX bikes? College at 17? That seemed kinda off, considering his career path.

Naturally, I got curious. You know how it is, something catches your attention and you gotta dig into it. So, I went online. Just started searching around, you know, typing stuff like “Ryan Williams college” and “Ryan Williams age 17 education”.
Man, the first wave of results was all about his X Games medals and Nitro Circus tours. Tons of videos of him doing backflips and crazy stunts. It took a bit of scrolling and trying different search terms to get past all the action sports hype. I was specifically looking for anything linking him, the Australian rider born in ’94, to being enrolled in college way back when he was 17, which would’ve been around 2011 or 2012.
Here’s what I found (or didn’t find):
- Loads about him turning pro really young.
- Details on him dedicating basically his whole youth to riding.
- Zero solid evidence that the famous Ryan Williams was in college at 17. His timeline just doesn’t seem to fit that narrative. He was already making waves in the pro scene then.
So, my next step was thinking, okay, maybe it’s not that Ryan Williams? It’s a pretty common name, right? I searched again, this time looking for any notable person named Ryan Williams who might have been in college at 17. Found a few mentions of athletes, students here and there, but nothing that stood out as the answer to the original question’s implied context.
It seems most likely that either the question is based on mistaken identity, confusing the famous rider with someone else, or maybe it refers to a specific, less famous Ryan Williams who just happened to be academically advanced or skipped grades. Happens sometimes. Some kids are just really smart and finish high school early.

It reminds me of back when I started college. I wasn’t 17, just the regular age, but there was always that one kid in class who looked way younger, turns out they skipped a grade or two. So yeah, someone named Ryan Williams could definitely be in college at 17, but it’s almost certainly not the R-Willy we see flying through the air.
Just one of those things where you gotta sift through the noise online to get a clearer picture. Took a bit of digging, but I feel like I got to the bottom of it, at least for my own curiosity.
