- National Football Conference – that’s the other.
And then, get this, they split those groups up even more! Into four littler groups they call “divisions”. Each one of those has four teams. It is like boxes in boxes. Too many boxes for this old lady to keep track of. But it helps them figure out who plays who, I suppose. And who gets to rest when.
So, How Do They Pick Who Gets a Bye Week?
Well, they got a system, that’s for sure. Ain’t nothin’ random about it, like throwin’ darts at a board. They gotta make sure everyone gets a turn, ya see?
They start the season with everyone playin’. First four weeks, everyone’s out there, huffin’ and puffin’. And then at the end of the season, the last three weeks, they’re all playin’ again, too. It’s like the beginnin’ and the end of a long, hard winter. Gotta plant before it gets cold, and gotta harvest before it gets cold again.
But in the middle, that’s where the bye weeks happen. They spread ’em out so not too many teams are restin’ at the same time. It’s like makin’ sure there’s always someone tendin’ the store.
Why Do They Even Need Bye Weeks?
