Okay, so, I set out to find this “Golden Hippopotamus” in Elden Ring. Sounds majestic, right? I’d heard it was in this place called the Shadow Keep. And, more specifically, like, smack-dab in the middle courtyard. You practically run right into it if you’re coming from the southern entrance of Scadu Altus. Which…I did.

My Hunt for the Hippo
First, I had to actually get to Scadu Altus. This involved lots of running, dodging some seriously ugly monsters, and generally trying not to die. Elden Ring, you know? Always a good time.
Once I got there, finding the southern entrance was pretty straightforward. There were, naturally, a few annoying enemies hanging around, but nothing my trusty sword couldn’t handle. I cleared them out, took a deep breath, and strolled into the Shadow Keep.
And there it was. The courtyard. And…yep, the Golden Hippopotamus.
- Step 1: Get to Scadu Altus. Be prepared for a fight.
- Step 2: Find the southern entrance. Shouldn’t be too hard.
- Step 3: Enter the Shadow Keep. Boom. Courtyard. Hippo.
I’m not going to lie, it was a bit of a surprise, I went in, all geared and prepped to do hard searching and he just showed up!
So, that’s my story of finding the Golden Hippopotamus. Not as epic a tale as some of my other adventures, but hey, a win’s a win, right? Sometimes things are straightforward.
