Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this old F1 stuff lately, specifically the 1986 Benetton BMW. Let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride.

First off, I started digging into the history of this car. Turns out, 1986 was the first year Benetton was actually a Formula 1 constructor. They were in it for a good 16 years, and man, did they make some noise! I mean, 27 wins and a couple of drivers’ world titles? That’s huge. The B186 was the first car they built and raced.

Then I found out that the B186, this particular car, was a beast. I read somewhere that it could supposedly push out over 1,350 horsepower in qualifying trim. Can you believe that? It’s insane! No wonder it was the most competitive of the BMW-powered cars that season. So, naturally, I got curious about the drivers. Gerhard Berger, that’s a name that popped up. I looked him up and found out he got his first Grand Prix win in the 1986 Mexican Grand Prix, driving this very car!

So, what did I do? I decided to see if I could find any of those old 1986 races online. And guess what, I did! I found some, and they are a goldmine. I started watching, just soaking it all in. And there it was, the Benetton B186, in all its glory, tearing up the track. Watching those old races is like a time machine. The cars look so different, and the racing was something else.

I got so hyped up that I decided to dive even deeper. I started looking up old photos, articles, anything I could find on the B186. I wanted to see every angle, every detail. It was also a part of the team’s 16-year run in Formula 1, ending in 2001. It was cool to read about the different drivers who passed through during their time as Toleman and Renault. It’s wild to think that this B186 was a part of that history.

Here’s what I’ve been doing:

  • Watching old races: Seriously, it’s addictive. I can’t get enough of seeing the B186 in action.
  • Collecting images: I’ve got a whole folder full of pictures of the B186 now. It’s like my own little digital museum.
  • Reading everything I can find: Old articles, forum posts, you name it. I’m trying to piece together the whole story of this car and its season.

This whole thing has been a blast. It’s like uncovering a piece of racing history, and I’m totally hooked. I feel like I’m getting to know the B186, not just as a machine, but as a legend. I will keep digging, keep watching, and keep learning. Who knows what else I’ll find?

So yeah, that’s my story of getting into the 1986 Benetton BMW. It’s been a fun ride, and I’m not planning on stopping anytime soon. You can bet I’ll be sharing more as I keep digging!
