Okay, so I wanted to get my hands dirty with this whole “essay” thing. I’ve heard people talk about it, but I’ve never actually tried to, you know, make one myself. So, I figured, why not? Let’s dive in and see what happens. This is my raw, unfiltered experience, folks!

The Blank Page – Where to Even Begin?
First things first, I needed a topic. Staring at a blank page is seriously intimidating. My mind was a total blank. After a bunch of random Google searches, I went general, cause, why not?
The Actual Writing – A Messy Process
Now for the hard part – actually writing the thing. I started by just dumping all my thoughts onto the page. Seriously, it was a complete brain dump. No structure, no fancy words, just my raw thoughts. It looked like a toddler had gotten hold of a keyboard.
Then came the editing. Oh boy, the editing. This is where I tried to make sense of the mess I’d created. I moved stuff around, deleted huge chunks, and rewrote entire paragraphs. It felt like trying to assemble a jigsaw puzzle without the picture on the box.
- Read it out loud: Sounded weird? Changed it.
- Too many short sentences? Combined them.
- Too many long sentences? Chopped them up.
Finally Getting There… Maybe?
After what felt like forever, I finally had something that resembled an essay. It wasn’t perfect, not by a long shot. But it was something. I had a beginning, a middle, and an end. It even kind of flowed… in a bumpy, slightly off-road kind of way.
I reread it a few more times, tweaking things here and there. I even asked a friend to take a look, which was terrifying, but they gave me some helpful feedback.

The Takeaway – It’s Harder Than It Looks!
So, what did I learn from this whole experience? Well, writing an essay is definitely harder than it looks. It takes time, effort, and a whole lot of patience. It’s also a pretty messy process. You’re going to write some terrible stuff before you write anything good. And that’s okay! The important thing is to just keep going, keep editing, and keep learning. I don’t know about publishing this, but it sure was good practice.
