Okay, so I’ve been messing with the ESPN app again, and I gotta vent. Seriously, why is this thing so clunky? It’s 2024, and this app feels like it’s stuck in 2010.

The Initial Frustration
First off, I downloaded the app, obviously. Opened it up, and BAM! – a wall of stuff I don’t care about. I just wanted to check the score of the Lakers game, but I’m bombarded with articles, videos, and random highlights from sports I don’t even follow. I’m thinking, ‘Can I just get to the scores, please?’
Navigating the Maze
So, I started tapping around. The menu is…well, it’s a lot. It’s got like a million options, and finding what you need is like a scavenger hunt. I clicked on “NBA,” finally, but even then, it’s not straightforward. You get a bunch of games, but they’re not always in a logical order. Sometimes it’s chronological, sometimes it’s…who knows?
The Ads…Oh, the Ads!
And don’t even get me started on the ads. They’re EVERYWHERE. Full-screen pop-ups, banners, auto-playing videos…it’s insane! I spent more time closing ads than actually looking at scores. I get it, apps need to make money, but this is overkill. It feels like they’re actively trying to make the experience as unpleasant as possible.
Buffering Blues
Then there’s the video content. I tried to watch a highlight, and it took forever to load. I’m on a pretty fast Wi-Fi connection, so it’s not my internet. The video kept buffering and stuttering, and I eventually just gave up. It’s like they’re using some ancient video player from the dial-up era.
Customization Nightmares
I thought, “Okay, maybe I can customize this thing to make it better.” I went into the settings and tried to select my favorite teams and sports. It’s a bit of a process, and even after doing that, I still get a bunch of irrelevant stuff on my feed. It’s like the app just ignores my preferences.

The Final Straw
- Too many irrelevant news.
- The menu have too many options.
- Full-screen pop-ups ads.
- The video always took forever to load.
Honestly, after fumbling around with this app for a while, I just uninstalled *’s Too many steps to check a simply score. I’ll just stick to checking scores on the web, or maybe I’ll try a different sports app. There’s gotta be something better out there. This whole experience just left me shaking my head. It feels like such a missed opportunity for ESPN to have a truly great app, but instead, they’ve given us…this.
