Hey everyone, today I want to talk about someone I’ve been digging into lately – Eric Young Sr. You know, sometimes you just stumble upon a name and it leads you down a rabbit hole? That’s what happened here.

So, I started with a simple search. Typed in “Eric Young Sr.” and boom, tons of stuff popped up. Turns out, this guy was a pretty big deal in Major League Baseball back in the day. Played for a bunch of teams – the Dodgers, Rockies, Cubs, you name it. He was a second baseman and a left fielder, which I thought was kind of cool. I mean, I barely know the difference, but I tried to act like a true baseball fan, haha.
Here’s where it got interesting: I found out he was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers way back in 1989. 43rd round! Can you believe it? I mean, that’s pretty far down the list. But he made it. He actually played in the big leagues. I got really excited about this, you know, an underdog making it big. I spent hours reading about his career, it’s really a long story. I read it like a novel.
His Baseball Career
- He started his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
- Then he moved to the Colorado Rockies.
- Played for the Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee Brewers, San Francisco Giants, and Texas Rangers.
- He even hit the first home run at home in Colorado Rockies history! I watched that video.
And get this – he’s from New Brunswick, New Jersey. That’s not too far from where I grew up, so that was another little connection I felt. I even found out his birthday – May 18, 1967. I felt I knew him after digging out so many details. He is just an old friend of mine, haha.
But it’s not just about his playing days. Recently, I saw that he’s been coaching for the Atlanta Braves. And just a few days ago – on November 12, 2023, to be exact – I read that he’s moving on to be the third base coach for the Anaheim Angels. So, he’s still in the game, which I think is awesome. I guess I will still have the chance to see him on TV!
You know, it’s funny how these things go. I started with a simple name and ended up learning a whole lot about a guy’s life and career. It’s like a mini-biography project I never planned on doing. And you know what? I really enjoyed it. It is like a treasure hunt, and I was so satisfied when I found the treasure. Anyway, that’s my little deep dive into Eric Young Sr. Hope you found it as interesting as I did!
