Alright, let’s talk about Squid Game 2. Ever since they confirmed it was happening, one big question has been bugging me, and probably you too: what’s gonna happen to Seong Gi-hun? Does the main man survive this time around, or is he gonna end up like so many others from the first season?
My Deep Dive Attempt
So, I decided to do some digging. Spent a good hour or so the other night just bouncing around the web. You know how it is. I started searching for things like:

Went through a bunch of articles, forum discussions, watched a couple of YouTube theory videos. Basically, I tried to soak up anything I could find.
What I Found (or Didn’t Find)
Honestly? Not much solid info. It’s mostly just speculation city out there. Everyone’s got a theory. Some folks are totally convinced he’s gonna die a hero’s death taking down the whole organization. Others think there’s no way they’d kill off the main character after everything he went through.
I saw some quotes from the director, Hwang Dong-hyuk. He said Gi-hun’s coming back and will ‘do something for the world’. Sounds pretty vague, right? Could mean anything. Could mean he tries and fails, could mean he succeeds. Doesn’t really answer the dying question directly.
Mostly, it felt like wading through clickbait. Headlines screaming “GI-HUN’S DEATH CONFIRMED?!” only for the article to say “well, we don’t know, but wouldn’t it be crazy if…”. Pretty frustrating stuff.
Thinking About Season 1’s Ending
I keep going back to that final scene in Season 1. Gi-hun, dyed red hair, turning back from the plane. He looked determined. Angry. He’s clearly not done with the games or the people behind them. That ending strongly suggests he’s going back in, or at least going after them. Why set that up just to kill him off immediately?
It feels like his story shifted from survival to revenge, or maybe dismantling the whole sick system. That kind of mission usually means danger, yeah, but often the hero sees it through, or at least makes a big impact before the end.
The Show’s Brutal Nature vs. Gi-hun’s Role
But then again, this is Squid Game. The show pulled no punches in Season 1. Beloved characters dropped like flies. Killing Gi-hun would be totally in character for the show’s dark tone. It would be shocking, keep us on our toes.
However, Gi-hun is our eyes into this world now. He’s the one constant, the person we followed from the start. Killing him off feels like it might derail the story unless they introduce an equally compelling character to take the lead, which is tough to do.
My Gut Feeling
So, after all that digging and thinking? My gut tells me… they probably won’t kill him. At least, not easily or early on. He’s the driving force now. His mission to expose or stop the games feels like the core of Season 2. Maybe he’ll die right at the very end, making some ultimate sacrifice? That feels possible.
But honestly, nobody really knows outside of the creators. It’s all just guessing games until the show actually comes out. Guess I’ll just have to wait impatiently like everyone else. The speculation is part of the fun, I suppose, but man, I really want to know!
