Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with the new Dawntrail expansion in Final Fantasy 14, and let me tell you, the tomestone situation is something else. I figured I’d share my experience figuring out where to find the new tomestone vendors, ’cause it’s not exactly obvious at first.
First off, I started like everyone else, just plowing through the Main Scenario Quests. You know, the usual grind. But I’m also a bit of a hoarder, so I was doing every FATE I could find along the way. Every time I completed a FATE and got some Bicolor Gemstones, I thought, “Okay, there will be some vendors coming up soon.” So I played through the main story, keeping a watchful eye out for any new vendors, but couldn’t find any.
Then, I went to check on the Hunt Board, hoping there would be some new items in exchange for the Sacks of Nuts. Unfortunately, there was nothing new. I felt a little disappointed, thinking there might be something wrong. But there wasn’t anything wrong.
I decided to check the official website, read some guides and stuff. Those guides always mention these elusive tomestone vendors in the new areas. Some said that I should finish all the Main Scenario Quests, then the vendors will appear. Other said that I should do some specific sidequests to unlock these vendors. I was like, “What the heck?”
After that, I realized that I have to finish the Main Scenario Quests first. So I focused on the Main Scenario Quests. But there are 100 quests in this questline. It’s a long journey.
Finally, when I finished the last Main Scenario Quest, I unlocked the tomestone vendor! It was such a long journey, but it’s worth it.
Here’s what I learned from this whole ordeal:
- The tomestone vendors are not available from the start. I had to grind through all 100 Main Scenario Quests.
- I did some FATEs along the way, which was a good thing to do.
- I checked the Hunt Board, but didn’t find any new items.
- I had to finish the Main Scenario Quest first, and then the vendors will be unlocked.
