Hey everyone, today I want to talk about something a little different, something more personal. It’s about my dad, Yogi Berra, and our relationship. You all know him as a baseball legend, but to me, he was just Dad.

Dale Berra: Following in Yogis Footsteps, Learn More Here

I kicked off this project because, well, I wanted to share our story with the world. A real story, not just the stats and the highlights you see on TV. So I started writing, putting down all those memories, from growing up in suburban New Jersey to watching him play in all those World Series games. Yeah, he was a big shot with the New York Yankees, winning ten World Series, but at home, he was just a regular guy, a loving father.

The writing process was a trip down memory lane. I dug up old stories, thought about all the good times we had, and even some of the tough ones. It was like piecing together a puzzle, trying to capture the essence of our bond. And let me tell you, it wasn’t always easy. There were moments when I struggled to find the right words, to really express how much he meant to me.

  • I started with our early days, those simple times in New Jersey.
  • Then I moved on to his career, not just the games, but what it was like for him, for us as a family.
  • And of course, I wrote about their relationship, my mom and dad’s. It was a special one, a real partnership.

As I wrote, I realized this was more than just a memoir. It was a tribute, a way to honor my dad’s legacy, both on and off the field. I wanted to show the world the Yogi Berra I knew, the man behind the legend. He was a great player, no doubt, with incredible hand-eye coordination and a knack for hitting. He played his first game on September 22, 1946, and went on to play in over a hundred games for 14 years. But he was also a great dad, and that’s what I wanted to share.

The Final Inning

In the end, I called it “My Dad, Yogi.” It’s not just a catchy title, it’s the heart of the story. I finished the manuscript, sent it off, and now it’s out there, a piece of my heart shared with the world. I hope when you read it, you’ll see what I see: a great man, a loving father, and a legend who was, above all, my dad.
